Walkers is arguably one of the biggest and best known names when it comes to savoury snacks in the UK. Most recently they’ve release a new range called Walkers Pops.
They’ve been out since the beginning of this year though I’ve noticed they’ve taken a while to gain ground. The Pops are a range of air-popped crisps and come in Original, Sour Cream & Chive, Melted Cheese & Crispy Bacon and Prawn Cocktail. As to be expected, not all places stock all flavours, and only the Original and Melted Cheese & Crispy Bacon come in loose individual packets (a la snack stores and cafés).
Much like the Walkers Baked range, these crisps won’t be for everyone. If you want a classic crisp this is not the same, owing to its different cooking process. If you’re familiar with Pom-Bears, the Pops texture is more on par with it. The popped texture does not compromise the flavour and the size of each crisp in the bag is far more uniform than either the normal Walkers crisps or the Baked range. The Pops are a light snack which doesn’t feel oily in your mouth, and for a calorie counter this is a more ideal alternative, being roughly 30-40 calories less per 25g bag.
I’m a big fan of savoury snacks and I’m still not quite convinced by the Pops. I do enjoy the lightness of texture, but if I really want to spend time eating a savoury snack I wouldn’t necessarily pick it. I’d recommend you give it a try, but the Pops are definitely not for everyone.
