The Big Bang Theory, Season 8 Episode 8 Review: “The Prom Equivalency”

(Beware, spoilers below!)

This week’s episode of The Big Bang Theory is both funny and touching, as the girls put together a prom do-over. Having had disastrous proms in their day. both Amy and Bernadette decide to give it another shot on the building roof, and invite all their friends.

Cue funny suggestions to Sheldon about what couples do on prom night whilst Howard confronts Stuart about the latter’s relationship with his mother. Howard’s momentary relief that Stuart isn’t bringing his mother to the prom is quickly scuppered when it’s revealed he’s instead bringing the second-cousin that Howard lost his virginity to. Meanwhile, Sheldon begins to panic over prom when he sees Amy. It’s leads onto a sweet and unexpected moment when he finally tells Amy he loves her. “I considered it might be a brain parasite.” he says.

We’re also treated to some low-key moment with Raj and Pennard (is that their couple name?). Raj brings along Emily, who is shown to have some hilarious tendencies when it comes to liking creepy horror (following along from the horror movie episode), whilst Leonard expresses how happy he is bringing Penny ‘the prettiest girl’ to the prom. They are both sweet moments that shows how far the gang has come over the past 7-8 years.

All in all, it’s an episode balanced out with both funny moments but also scenes showing why we like the characters so much. I think the final scene (the one just before the credits) where Raj is taking the pictures of the couples, with Emily by his side, sums it up perfectly.
